What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy helps people to resolve problems. This may be done by talking or by trying to change the root causes.  The therapist and patient meet often enough to address the problems, usually in a face to face format.

What is Psychoanalysis?

Psychoanalysis is based on understanding that individuals are often unaware of what creates their emotions and behavior.  These unconscious factors can lead to unhappiness, problems in work or love relationships, physical symptoms, and personality problems.  Often, when people become aware of factors that determine their emotions and behavior they tend to get better.

In order to gain this kind of emotional knowledge regular meetings, often four to five times per week are necessary and the patient lies on a couch.  That way the analyst and patient can work in partnership to understand thoughts and feelings as they arise in daily life.
